Introduction
For Al to contribute to justice, we must explore how Al impacts power relationships, particularly those that preserve inequality within our society in very real and material terms. We present an Ecology of Al framework as a way to contribute to broader, world-systems thinking around harm and benefit (in the short-, medium- and long-term) for organisms, populations, communities, ecosystems and the biosphere. The Ecology of AI Workshop at HHAI will explore these pressing issues by focusing on global structures such as colonialism, racialized industrial capitalism, philanthrocapitalism, necropolitics, and so on.
