Introduction

As part of the Turing's Clinical AI Interest Group, we have formed supra-interest groups in different clinical specialties to bring together clinicians and AI experts in a more focused manner - see webpage for details of all the groups.

The current supra-interest groups are:

  • Anaesthetics and Intensive Care
  • Medical imaging and computer vision
  • AI for Women's Health
  • Pathology
  • Public Health
  • NeuroAI
  • MSK AI
  • Genomic Medicines AI

The Public Health supra-interest group focuses on the development and application of AI to prevent disease, prolong life, and promote, protect and improve health. The supra group enables sharing knowledge and ideas, pooling skills and learning across domain experts, data science and AI researchers, to advance the development of safe, ethical, responsible, and equitable AI across the three domains of public health.

About the event

You decide: Can AI truly be part of a sustainable and equitable future for public health?

This debate will explore the motion “The energy consumption associated with AI training and operation is an insurmountable barrier to it contributing positively to public health.” We bring together two leading voices in the field to explore this critical and timely question:

Speakers:

  • Professor Hugh Montgomery, Chair of Intensive Care Medicine at University College London and an expert in both clinical research and the health impacts of climate change
  • Dr Gabrielle Samuel, Lecturer in Environmental Justice and Health at King’s College London and co-Director of the SHADE research group at the intersection of Sustainability, Health, AI, Digital technologies, and the Environment

Each panelist will present their perspective in a 15-minute talk, followed by a lively Q&A session with the audience. Whether you’re a researcher, practitioner, policymaker, or simply curious about the interplay between AI, sustainability, and health, don’t miss the chance to gain new insights, challenge your perspectives, and engage in meaningful discussion about the future of AI in public health.
