Introduction

Via the 'Turing Connections' initiative, The Alan Turing Institute creates and signposts opportunities which are relevant to PhD students connected with data science and artificial intelligence. The aims of the wider initiative are to:

  • Develop a more cohesive network of cross-organisational doctoral students
  • Improve student skills and practices by complementing student PhD programme activity
  • Provide opportunities for raising awareness of and connection to real-world challenges and applications

Toward these aims, PhD students across the UK are invited to register to attend PhD student presentation and networking events.

About the event

The presentation and networking events are designed for PhD students to expand their network by meeting other AI and Data Science PhD students, sharing research and improve communication skills.

These events are free to attend. Registration includes a complementary sandwich lunch and use of venue facilities throughout the day.

If your plans change and you can no longer attend, please cancel your registration so that other students can benefit from the opportunity.

Each event agenda will change depending on attendee presentations but each day includes a networking session, student presentations and lunch. Event agendas will be added to this webpage once the registration deadline passes.

This event will be taking place in the Events Space, School of Law and Social Justice at the University of Liverpool.

Agenda

The event will provide ample opportunity for PhD students to present their research in data science and artificial intelligence, and network with their peers. A keynote presentation will be delivered by clinical pharmacologist Professor Reecha Sofat and PhD candidate in astrophysics Andrew Mason, which will focus on Andrew’s placement with Professor Sofat and the application of data science to challenges in the healthcare sector.

We aim to confirm registrations and release full agenda by 20 May.

Registration deadline - 12 noon Friday 10 May 2024.

Financial

Attendees are expected to liaise with university contacts to access funds for travel and accommodation, if needed. At the current time, unfortunately we do not have funds available for access funding. Lunch will be provided on the day.
