The ethics of data science can be structured as three closely related streams of inquiry: the ethics of data, ethics of algorithms, and ethics of data-driven practices. This advanced level class will build upon the overview of data ethics provided in the introductory level session. Drawing upon an examination of the role of ethical theory and empirical data in ethical analysis of data science, several real world ethical dilemmas drawn from emerging information technologies and regulatory debates will be critically analysed via group-based discussion.
This is an advanced session.
