Introduction
The Turing, together with our strategic partner Accenture, ran a competitive funding call in 2022 aimed at developing innovative online learning courses on Responsible AI topics, and in particular on transparency and fairness. This work is part of our commitment to offering engaging learning opportunities in data science and AI with a focus on ethical and responsible approaches in designing, building and deploying AI for social good. This work complements the Turing Commons project, developed by our in-house Ethics researchers.
Seven proposals were selected with applicants ranging from consultancies to Turing Network Development Award Leads, and the teams worked alongside industry practitioners at Accenture to create a suite of innovative courses relevant for theoretical and applied scientists alike. Each course tackles important areas both for academics and for those working in industry, the public sector or charities. A snapshot of the courses currently under development is available below.
The courses will reside on the new Turing Online Learning Platform launching in Spring 2023. The platform will offer open, free, accessible and engaging courses in a range of data science, AI and related topics. Researchers, trainers and practitioners can take the self-paced courses themselves, or they can use the open-source learning materials to deliver the training in their own communities by reusing and adapting content, and they can contribute directly to the long-term sustainability of the courses.
