Turing researcher recruited as chief scientist at Uber

Warm congratulations to Zoubin Ghahramani on his recent appointment as chief scientist at Uber.

Regarded highly worldwide as an artificial intelligence and machine learning expert and global leader in probabilistic modelling and machine learning, Zoubin has been instrumental in setting up The Alan Turing Institute in his role as University Liaison Director for Cambridge over the past two years.

Zoubin’s affiliation with Uber began three months ago, when Geometric Intelligence, an artificial intelligence start-up he co-founded, was acquired to form the core of Uber’s newly launched research initiative, AI Labs. The acquisition places artificial intelligence and machine learning at the centre of Uber’s mission to “make transportation as reliable as running water, everywhere, for everyone” with the intention to apply artificial intelligence and machine learning to technological challenges ranging from self-driving cars and optimising cities to language and robots.
