Chris Orton is a Programme Manager based within Population Data Science at Swansea University Medical School. Chris currently manages Theme 1: Reproducible, secure, and interoperable infrastructure for the AI for Multiple Long-Term Conditions: Research Support Facility, ensuring that AIM consortia and wider researchers are supported in using research infrastructure such as Trusted Research Environments, and that methods and architectures in deploying research infrastructure are developed and disseminated.
Chris leads other research and infrastructure development initiatives at Swansea University, such as the SAIL Databank role within National Core Studies, the technical elements of the Health Data Research UK Inflammation and Immunity Driver Programme, and the legacy projects of the BREATHE Health Data Research Hub for Respiratory Health.
Chris’ first degree was in French and History, however re-trained with an MSc in Health Informatics during the early part of his career working with the Population Data Science team in Swansea. Much of the role in Swansea also allows Chris to present at conferences and disseminate the work undertaken by the department, and has been lucky enough to do so worldwide regularly at the International Population Data Linkage Network Conference, and at strategic meetings in the USA and Australia. Outside of work, Chris is a sports fanatic and regularly watches rugby, cricket, and football, and keeps up to date with fine dining developments across the UK
