Bio
Chiara Di Bonaventura is a PhD candidate in Safe and Trusted Artificial Intelligence at King's College London and Imperial College London. Before, she spent one year as Research Assistant in Natural Language Processing at Fondazione Ing. Debenedetti (Milan, Italy). Previously, she graduated cum laude in MSc in Data Science at Bocconi University (Milan, Italy), and was a Visiting Student Researcher at Bocconi Institute for Data Science and Analytics. She obtained her bachelor in Economics and Social Sciences from Bocconi University, and spent a semester as visiting student at Dartmouth College (Hanover, United States).
Research interests
Chiara’s research interests focus on Natural Language Processing, specifically on the detection and counter-acting of online abusive language (e.g. hate speech, bullying, harassment). Her PhD work focuses on introducing time-sensitive factors into language processing systems with the aim of improving algorithmic performance and system fairness – which is crucial for linguistic phenomena like online abusive language as it evolves at short time scales following rapid changes in social dynamics and political events. Her research aligns with the Digital Society and Public Policy’s focus area on Online Safety at the Turing, contributing to novel methods for detecting online harms and providing timely evidence on prevalence and trends.
