Bio
Matthew Faith is a PhD student at the University of Plymouth, co-funded by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) and the University of Plymouth. His research focusses on monitoring the socioeconomic impacts resulting from human-induced changes in the marine environment. Prior to his PhD, Matthew graduated with a First-class Honours degree in Marine Biology and Oceanography. Matthew has experience in both industry and academia, working on projects funded by the European Space Agency and the European Union, to develop new tools for monitoring marine ecosystems. Matthew is particularly interested in the value of spatial ecological modelling for informing environmental decision-making.
Research interests
Matthew’s research at the Alan Turing Institute will explore new methods for modelling the potential socioeconomic impacts resulting from ecosystem changes in the Northeast Atlantic. This research aims to better inform management of the marine environment and, more widely, explore the value of machine learning techniques for making better use of historical ecological datasets.
