Bio

Yueting is a PhD student from the MathSys CDT, University of Warwick, under the joint supervision of Dr Paolo Turrini and Dr Marya Bazzi. Her research focuses on network modelling of behavioural ecology in digital ecosystems (e.g., online media and digital market). During her research, she pays special attention to network visualisation.

Research interests

A drastic shift towards digital communication has accelerated the growth of digital ecosystems, with little-to-no regulation. Understanding such systems and proposing appropriate policies have therefore become more and more prominent in recent years. As a timely interdisciplinary topic, Yueting studies the network structure and dynamics within the media landscape, in order to develop generative system-level tools that can establish real-data-based connections between online information flow and opinion dynamics. She is particularly interested in using network structures to differentiate behavioural features of multi-sided groups. Her recent research on Facebook vaccination campaigns shows that bow-tie structure, by topologically grouping users based on their behavioural roles (e.g., information creators, magnifiers, listeners), captures information flow differences among Facebook pages of multi-sided vaccination campaigns (anti-, pro-, netural) and enhances opinion dynamics predictions (page follower count). Building on this work, her ongoing project extends the modelling framework to study COVID-related misinformation diffusion in a 3-year Twitter dataset, involving over 100 million retweets, with finer timestamps and richer metadata. By joining the Turing as an enrichment student, she believes Turing’s expertise in policy, coupled with close collaborations with government and industry, will provide unique and vital support in the practical aspects (e.g., intervention suggestions) of her research.
