Heather is a PhD student at the Centre for Polar Observation and Modelling (CPOM) in the School of Earth and Environment at the University of Leeds. Her primary research area is using Earth Observation to study the polar ice sheets. She investigates the changing speed and structure of the glaciers on the periphery of the Antarctic Ice Sheet. Heather is interested in applying machine-learning techniques utilised in urban analytics and medical imaging to the textural and linear features of ice shelves observable in satellite imagery.
