Position

Turing-Roche Community Scholar, University of Oxford

Bio

Ellen is a DPhil student at the University of Oxford, studying statistical machine learning applied to omics data under Prof. Christopher Yau. Her and the groups work is on un-supervised and semi--supervised algorithms in the presence of rare groups- for which there are few observations that hold high significance. They aim to apply this in the context of ovarian cancer, where identifying abnormal yet infrequent cell types from single-cell datasets could aid in diagnosis.

She is part of the 2023/2024 Turing-Roche Partnership Community Scholar Scheme.

Turing-Roche Community Scholar Project

Previously to her DPhil Ellen worked at a small software consultancy, where she developed an interest in coding practices and software development. Although she doesn’t claim to be an expert, this is an area that she think academia could improve. As such her community project aims to create a forum where researchers can share the tips and tricks that improve their coding workflow and productivity.
