A flagship scheme at the Institute, Turing Fellows are the next generation of world leading researchers. They have proven research excellence in data science, artificial intelligence, or a related field, and research interests aligned to the Institute’s Science and Innovation priorities. They are active members of the Turing community, contribute new ideas, and help grow the research capacity of the Institute. Turing Fellowships are offered on an unfunded basis through an annual, open, UK-wide call.
There are four types of fellowship at the Institute, and each has its own aims, structure, funding arrangements (if applicable) and target audience.
Turing Fellows
Turing AI Fellows
The Turing AI Fellowships are a £46 million initiative created as part of the AI Sector Deal’s ambitious skills and talent package aimed at retaining, attracting and developing the best and brightest AI international researchers. The Turing AI Fellowships are delivered in partnership by The Alan Turing Institute, UK Research and Innovation, and the Department for Science, Innovation & Technology.
Turing Research Fellows
Turing Research Fellowships provide researchers from a diverse range of backgrounds with placement opportunities and the training, mentoring and career development support to enable them to work across sectors and advance their careers. Turing Research Fellows start by being embedded in a Turing project and throughout the first year, placement opportunities in industry, government and the third sector organisations are shaped.
Honorary Fellows
Honorary Fellows are people who have contributed significantly to the promotion and goals of the Institute.
