Bio
Binur is currently a PhD student in the Wellcome Trust funded 'Health Data In Practice' program based at Queen Mary University of London under the supervision of Rohini Mathur, Sarah Finer and Moneeza Siddiqui. She holds an MRes degree in 'Health Data in Practice' from Queen Mary University and a Master in Public Health degree from Nazarbayev University. She previously worked as a research assistant at Nazarbayev University in Diabetes Research Group. She is interested in using electronic health records to address population-level health inequalities.
Research interests
Binur's research is focused on understanding ethnic variations in risk trajectories for type 2 diabetes. Most current preventive strategies of type 2 diabetes are based on evidence derived from studies predominantly including older and white populations, while evidence shows that some ethnic groups are at higher risk of developing diabetes at younger age and lower body mass index, compared to people with white ethnic background. Binur is interested in using electronic health records and genetic data to understand ethnic differences in the natural history of transition to type 2 diabetes, which could contribute to the earlier identification of high-risk populations and the improvement of existing policies.
