Bio
Tao Wen is a PhD student at the Centre for Doctoral Training in Data Analytics and Society at The University of Manchester, advised by Yu-wang Chen and Tahir Abbas Syed. His PhD works on addressing fake news and deepfakes in social networks through data analytics. His research interests are broadly in the intersection of data mining, network science, decision science, and game theory.
Research interests
Tao’s Turing related research focuses on the modelling and analysis of opinion and decision dynamics in large-scale social networks. Faced with diverse information, users widely generate and exchange opinions to influence others on online social platforms. He aims to understand the underlying mechanisms of how decisions for a specific event are made in the dynamic process when individuals with a prior knowledge system are influenced by numerous factors in complex systems. He hopes to develop belief-based decision dynamics models that combine individual psychological decision-making hierarchy system with the collective dynamics in the complex system, which can provide professional services to platform operators and shed light on methodological design in the community.
