Bio

Dr Huy Phan is a Senior Research Scientist at Amazon Alexa since January 2023.

Before, Dr Huy Phan was a Lecturer in Artificial Intelligence at the School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science of Queen Mary University of London (QMUL). At QMUL, he was a member of the Centre for Digital Music and he was co-leading the School’s Machine Listening Lab. He was also a member of Cognitive Science Research Group, and of Digital Environment Research Institute at QMUL. In 2019-2020, he was a Lecturer in Computing at the School of Computing, University of Kent. In 2017-2019, he was a Postdoctoral Research Assistant at the Department of Engineering Science of the University of Oxford. His research topics include machine learning, deep learning, and signal processing applied to audio, speech, and biomedical signals. He is particularly interested in healthcare applications, such as low-cost tools for large-scale disease screening and diagnostics, acoustic sensing for elderly care, and home-based sleep monitoring.

Research interests

Dr Phan’s research focuses on advancing methods, models, algorithms, and practices for making sense of complex real-world data in acoustic monitoring and biomedical monitoring applications.
