Shuri Network Student Ambassador, Ghazel Mukhtar, joined the team in November 2020 to help grow student membership, explore what BME women in training want from a career in health tech and how NHS organisations can build a more diverse informatics workforce.

Ghazel has just completed a survey of student prioritise and interests which indicates that AI is the most popular topic students want to hear more about. This is closely followed by personalized medicine and big data/analytics.

Ghazel is a medical student at Imperial College London with a special interest in Digital Health. She organized the first national student-led conference on medical technology and chaired the ‘Innovation Conference’ which highlighted technological advances in surgical technology. In the past, she also worked on the deployment of a COVID-19 contact tracing application.

She is keen to support BME females across all fields of study in their career development and provide opportunities for students to engage with their interest in Digital Health.
