Jon is Chief Data Scientist at the Ministry of Justice where he provides leadership to a team of Data Scientists and Engineers who provide creative solutions to the complex challenges across the Ministry’s portfolio. From using Advanced Analytics to help tackle self-harm and violence in prison, to identifying financial risks in the Legal Aid Agency and embedding data science into the Probation Reform Programme; the team focuses on driving better outcomes for the citizens across the justice system.
Jon has built the data science and engineering teams from the ground up and is driven to ensure that MoJ’s analysts and data scientists take advantage of access to live data and cutting edge analytical tools to drive radical change and embed data into the heart of decisions that was impossible just a few years ago. Jon has also pushed forward the MoJ’s links with the Alan Turing Institute. Focusing on both ensuring the the MoJ has rock solid ethical AI principles in place as we look to roll out ML and AI in many areas of the business; and areas where the ATI’s expertise in cutting edge techniques might improve our existing data science driven services.
