Bio
Jack is a Data Scientist in the Applied Research Centre for Defence and Security (ARC). There, he works on applying the latest research in Data Science to produce technical reports and working proof-of-concept applications for challenges in the defence and security sector.
He joined the Institute in January 2024. Before then he studied for his PhD in resource-aware deep learning at the University of Southampton, where he focussed on progressive intelligence approaches. He was a student in the MINDS (Machine Intelligence for Nano-electronic Devices and Systems) centre for doctoral training, and was sponsored by Dstl.
Research interests
Jack worked on multiple projects with the ARC prior to joining them. He wrote a literature review on the concept of graceful degradation in the context of uncertainty aware machine learning. During a secondment at Dstl he then worked on a follow-on project which explored hierarchical classification for uncertainty quantification.
Now he focusses on deep learning based solutions to challenges in the defence and security sector.
