Bio

Dr Andrés Domínguez Hernández is an Ethics Fellow in the Public Policy Programme at The Alan Turing Institute and a Visiting Senior Lecturer at the Digital Environment Research Institute at Queen Mary University of London. He is an interdisciplinary scholar studying the ethical, social, and material implications of data-driven innovations, including artificial intelligence, cloud computing, Internet of Things and sensor networks.

Andrés has a background in Science and Technology Studies (STS), Innovation Management, and Engineering. He has established a strong record of collaboration with engineers, computer scientists, designers, practitioners, and civil society organisations. Prior to joining the Alan Turing Institute, he was as a Senior Research Associate at the University of Bristol’s School of Computer Science, where he led research on responsible, ethical, and inclusive innovation at a UKRI-funded research centre focused on addressing online harm. He has provided expert policy advice and leadership on digital rights and innovation and was previously Director of Technology Transfer at Ecuador’s Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation.

Research interests

Andrés specialises in issues of power, empowerment, responsibility, (in)justice, and future-making in relation to technological innovation. His research contributes to public participation in science and technology, governance of emerging technologies, and responsible innovation practices. He is the principal investigator of “Against Digital Fatalism" –a critical digital literacy initiative aimed at fostering participatory and hopeful futures by bridging the arts, digital technology, and social science. His work has been published in social science, computer science, and interdisciplinary journals, including Science, Technology and Human Values, the Journal of Responsible Innovation, the Handbook of Digital Society, the Journal of Medical Informatics ResearchACM FAccTand ACM CSCW.
