Bio

Axel G. Rossberg received his PhD in Theoretical Physics studying nonlinear complex systems at Universität Bayreuth (1998, summa cum laude). In 2003, he joined the Center of Excellence Environmental Risk Management for Bio/Eco-Systems at Yokohama National University and began work on ecological risk management, especially for food webs. With the monograph Food Webs and Biodiversity (Wiley 2013; winner, PROSE award in Biological Sciences) later attained international recognition as a leading food-web theorist. As Principal Scientist at Defra’s Centre for Environment, Fisheries & Aquaculture Science (Cefas) he became national and international advisor on marine conservation. In 2015 he became Reader in Theoretical Ecology at Queen Mary University of London. He is also founding member and Chair of the International Initiative for Theoretical Ecology (iite.info), a CIO committed to the advancement of research, teaching and application of theoretical ecology.
