Daniel Lawson is a Senior Lecturer in Data Science in the Statistical Sciences Institute at the University of Bristol. His work focusses on the computational aspects of statistical modelling, applied to a diverse range of applications. His primary area is bioinformatics and genetics, where he pioneered the computationally efficient Chromosome Painting paradigm for Bayesian clustering of genomes. Subsequently his work has spanned everything that can be done with that, including mixture models, epigenetics, causal inference, and inferring historical models. His wider work spans cultural dynamics, historical dynamics, machine learning for healthcare informatics, cyber security, and more.
