Bio

I am Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) in the Decision and Cognitive Sciences Research Centre at the Alliance Manchester Business School, University of Manchester, UK.

Between May 01 2020 and July 31 2022, I was a "Beatriz Galindo" Senior Distinguished Researcher at the University of Málaga, Spain.

Between October 2011 and September 2015, I was a Chargé de recherches (Postdoctoral researcher) of the Belgian F.R.S.-FNRS at the IRIDIA laboratory in the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB), Brussels, Belgium. I received a M.S. degree in Computer Science from the University of Granada (Spain) in 2004 and a Ph.D. from Edinburgh Napier University, U.K. in 2009. I joined the University of Manchester in October 2015.

Research interests

My main expertise ranges from the application of metaheuristics, including local search, evolutionary algorithms and ant colony optimisation to optimisation problems, including continuous, combinatorial and multi-objective problems.

My current research is on the experimental analysis and automatic configuration and tuning of stochastic optimisation algorithms, in particular, when applied to multi-objective optimisation problems.

I have also developed several widely used software tools such as the tuning software irace, hypervolume computation and EAF computation and visualisation.
