Noushin Eftekhari

Position

Research Associate

Bio

Noushin is a research associate with expertise in developing machine learning methods for AI-driven biodiversity monitoring. Noushin completed her PhD in artificial intelligence at Teesside University in November 2023. Her research encompasses a broad spectrum, primarily focusing on computer vision, cancer research, multi-modal data integration, and biodiversity monitoring. In cancer research, she specialises in developing deep learning models to explore personalised medicine and survival analysis. In the final year of her PhD, she joined the National Oceanography Centre (NOC) to advance biodiversity monitoring by developing deep learning to improve plankton image analysis. As a research associate, she focuses on multi-modal data analysis, zooplankton image analysis, and explainable AI. To this end, she collaborates with the Centre for Environment, Fisheries and Aquaculture Science and is part of Turing’s Environment & Sustainability Grand Challenge.

Research interests

Noushin’s research revolves around deep learning applications for multi-modal data integration, image analysis, computational cancer modelling, and computational biology. Currently, she works on biodiversity monitoring; she primarily analyses zooplankton image data from different camera systems (e.g., Plankton Imager, UVP5, UVP6).
