Bio
Ozgur B. Akan is the Head of the Internet of Everything (IoE) Group at the Department of Engineering, University of Cambridge, AXA Chair in Internet of Everything and the Director of the Next-generation and Wireless Communications Laboratory (NWCL) at Koç University. He received BSc. and MSc in electrical and electronics engineering from Bilkent University and Middle East Technical University, Ankara, Turkey, and Ph.D. in electrical and computer engineering from the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Georgia Institute of Technology, USA, in May 2004. He is an IEEE Fellow.
Research interests
Ozgur Akan conducts highly transdisciplinary theoretical and experimental research on nanoscale, molecular, and neural communications, Internet of Everything, THz and space communications, and has authored more than 250 publications.
Achievements and awards
He has been awarded the TÜBİTAK Science Award 2020, the AXA Chair in Internet of Everything, ERC Consolidator Grant, and ERC Proof-of-Concept Grant. He received the ACM NanoCom Outstanding Milestone Award 2019, IEEE NanoTechnology Council Distinguished Lecturership 2017, TÜBİTAK Young Scientist Award 2014, IEEE Communications Society Distinguished Lecturership 2011, IBM Shared University Research (SUR) Award 2011, IEEE Communications Society 2010 Outstanding Young Researcher Award, IBM Faculty Award 2008 & 2010.
He has served as a Series Editor for IEEE Communications Magazine, Inaugural Associate Editor for IEEE Networking Letters, Editor for Nano Communication Networks Journal (Elsevier), Associate Editor for IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology, IEEE Transactions on Communications, Ad Hoc Networks Journal, IET Communications, as the General Chair of IEEE INFOCOM 2017 and ACM MOBICOM 2012, and as the Steering Committee Member for IEEE INFOCOM and ACM NanoCom.
