Stefan Güttel is Reader in Numerical Analysis at the University of Manchester. He obtained his PhD in applied mathematics at TU Bergakademie Freiberg in Germany. His main research interests are in the field of computational mathematics, in particular, in parallel algorithms for high-dimensional problems arising with differential equations and in data-driven applications.
Data science relies on the availability of robust and fast parallel linear algebra techniques, be it within the optimisation routines for neural network training, in spectral clustering algorithms, or in the computation of centrality measures for complex networks. Stefan looks forward to working with Turing researchers to develop new algorithms for these purposes and to apply them in collaboration with practitioners in industry and public sectors.
