Postdoctoral Research Associate

Bio

Xiaoxue Shen joined the TRIC-DT team at the Alan Turing Institute in October 2023 as a Postdoctoral Research Associate, focusing on Neural Symbolic AI for Digital Twins. Prior to this, he was in Dynamics Research Group from March 2023 to September 2023 as a Research Associate at the University of Sheffield, where he concentrated on developing ontologies and knowledge graphs for digital twins. He began his PhD at the Acoustics Research Unit of the University of Liverpool as an Early Stage Researcher in the EU Marie Curie project ACOUTECT. His work there focused on modelling structure-borne sound transmission in lightweight buildings. The title of his PhD thesis is “Transient excitation and response of lightweight timber floors with a heavy impact source”. Before his PhD, Xiaoxue obtained his bachelor’s degree in 2014 and master’s degree in 2017 in Transportation Engineering from Central South University, China.

Research interests

While Digital Twins technology has demonstrated significant power across various domains, there is still a notable gap in its capabilities, specifically in querying, mining, retrieval, task planning & automation, decision support, and recommendations. This project aims to develop a robust neural-symbolic architecture for Digital Twins by combining deep learning methods with symbolic representation of knowledge.
