Bio

Dezong Zhao is a Reader in Autonomous Systems at James Watt School of Engineering, University of Glasgow. He received the BEng and MSc degrees from Shandong University in 2003 and 2006, respectively, and the PhD degree from Tsinghua University in 2010, all in Control Engineering. He was awarded an EPSRC Innovation Fellow in 2018 and a Royal Society-Newton Advanced Fellow in 2020. His research focuses on (1) perception, decision making, control of autonomous vehicles, (2) causal reasoning and knowledge-driven reasoning of robotics, and (3) digital twinning towards net zero energy and transportation systems. He has won the Best Paper Award at the ICUS in 2023 and 2021, the Best Paper Prizes at the FPC in 2019 and 2018, and the Young Researcher Award at the IEEE CDC in 2015. He is an Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology and IEEE Transactions on Intelligent Vehicles.
