As the interactions between people and intelligent systems become increasingly sophisticated, it becomes necessary to address both human and technical dimensions together.
Our vision is to realise a more safe, fair and sustainable future for all by uniting the strengths of the humanities, arts, social sciences and data-centric engineering. To deliver that vision, we will advance ambitious and novel research at the intersection of these diverse disciplines, with a focus on high risk and high potential concepts.
The specific aim is to advance cross-disciplinary understanding on the fundamentals of human–AI collaboration and interaction in intelligent engineered environments and thereby underpin equitable and effective work on Turing's grand challenges.
Objectives
- Advance world-class research on human-AI collaboration and interaction.
- Ground technological advances in social relevance, ethical considerations, and human values.
- Develop transdisciplinary methods among the fundamentals of data-centric engineering.
- Offer an unrivalled pathway to translate AI research to the heart of society and the economy.
Expected impacts
- A new field is established at the intersection of a unique fusion of disciplines delivering demonstrable impact globally.
- Findings and tools are adopted and applied to generate measurable improvements in areas including AI safety and decarbonisation.
- The next generation of data-centric engineering solutions is more human-centric and inclusive.
- More informed and holistic professional and public understanding on AI and data-centric engineering.
Job opportunities
We are now recruiting a Research Associate to conduct research of excellent quality on the fundamentals of human–AI synergies and interactions, and to introduce humanities and social science perspectives to the study of human-AI teaming. Visit here for further details.
Equality, diversity, and inclusion are central to the research vision and this holistic approach.
