Turing Lecture series on generative AI
The Alan Turing Institute's flagship lecture series, entitled "How AI Broke the Internet", was hosted in partnership with the Royal Institution of Great Britain (Ri).
The series' opened on Friday 22 September 2023 with What is generative AI?. Professor Mirella Lapata provided an overview of what generative AI models are, how they work and how they came to be.
In the second lecture, which took place on Tuesday 17 October 2023, Dr Mhairi Aitken delved into the associated risks of the rapid development of generative AI models.
Professor Michael Wooldridge gave the final talk of 2023 exploring the potential future impact of generative AI, focusing on issues relating to large language models (LLMs).

‘Exploring foundation models’ event
In February 2023, we hosted a one-day symposium at IET London: Savoy Place to explore the opportunities and challenges of foundation models. A sell-out audience of 250 people watched key names in the field discuss what these models are, how they work, what they will be capable of, and what technical and ethical challenges they raise. The entire event can be streamed here.
