The Alan Turing Institute’s Centre for Emerging Technology and Security (CETaS) has launched a call for academic collaboration for a forthcoming project titled ‘AI and the Semiconductor Industry: Leveraging the Relationship through Global Partnerships’. The aim of the project is to provide policymakers with a stronger understanding of the interdependencies between the global AI and semiconductor ecosystems, which can be used as a basis for security-enhancing global partnerships. The project is a collaboration with Chung-Ang University, Seoul, so the chosen Academic Collaborator will make up the third party within the project team. The team will be engaging closely with government, academia and industry through research interviews and workshops as part of this project and the final research output will be similar in form to existing CETaS Research Reports. Funding is available for a subject-matter expert to join the team part-time to support research activities and report writing. We encourage applications from those with a strong strategic overview of the role of semiconductors in UK economic and national security, an understanding of the UK’s strengths and opportunities in this domain relative to other allies and competitors and a research interest in the relationship between semiconductors and other critical technologies, particularly artificial intelligence.
