The Centre for Emerging Technology and Security (CETaS) is looking for academic collaborators to work alongside CETaS research staff on a project that will build on the portfolio of CETaS research into harms created by malicious actors’ uses of AI by adding a specific focus on online criminality. The public should benefit from a more evidence-based understanding of how AI tools are transforming and uplifting the types of criminality that they are most likely to experience on a day-to-day basis, while also benefitting indirectly from the ability of law enforcement to implement new policies which allow them to more effectively counter AI-enabled online criminality. The overall aim of this project is to provide the UK national security and law enforcement community with an evidence-based understanding of how the wider proliferation of AI systems is reshaping the landscape of high-level online criminality. This research should equip policymakers and security practitioners with the tools to plan for emerging criminal use cases and better position themselves to respond to novel threats over the next 5 years.
