    • In the UK there are a number of charities, community groups or other organisations that can support people on the basis of race, culture, gender, sexuality, disability and so forth. We also have several internal networks and supports in place at The Alan Turing Institute available to our staff and students.

  1. How do I get a visa?
    • To get a visa you would need to check your eligibility and visa options on the government website here: UK Visas and Immigration.
  2. What sponsorships does the Turing offer?
    • Depending on the role and legal requirements we can offer Skilled Worker Visa Sponsorship.
  3. Where should I collect my BRP from if I don’t know where I am going to live? 
    • The Post office closest to the British Library will be a good option, as it is quite central and near the office.
  4. Can I receive a confirmation of employment (before the start date) if I need to rent or open a bank account?
    • Yes, we can send through an offer letter for you to use as confirmation of employment.
  5. What is a good/convenient area to live in for an easy office commute?
    • The office is located in the British Library next to St Pancras International and Kings Cross Station in Zone 1. With access to many transport options, it can be easy to commute from all over London/UK. 
  6. Does The Alan Turing Institute offer student accommodation or other accommodation?
    • No, we do not offer any accommodation.
  7. How quickly can I get permanent accommodation?
    • It varies depending on what you’re looking for and where you’re looking. But it can be anywhere between 2 weeks to 3 months. As such we recommend organising temporary accommodation while looking for permanent lodging.
  8. Should I book accommodation before I arrive?
    • It can be difficult to organise permanent accommodation before arriving in the UK and you may prefer to view the area/residence in person. We recommend organising temporary accommodation while looking for permanent lodging.
  9. Does The Alan Turing Institute cover relocation costs?
    • Yes, the Turing will reimburse expenses in line with the following parameters; up to £2,000 for staff moving from Europe or within the UK (over 50 miles) or up to £4,000 for staff moving from overseas. 
  10. What is a Share Code and how do I get one?
    • A share code check is used to check and prove the eligibility for employment and right to rent of an individual in the UK.
    • Upon successful visa application, the respondent will receive a share code to share with their employer as well as one to share with their landlord/agency.
